What makes a blogger a blogger?
Continuing my series of blogger interviews, here’s Jen from Just Average Jen.
1. Tell me about yourself and your blog?
Hi, I’m Jen. My blog Just Average Jen is a lifestyle and food blog about me, just an average woman.
One of the major focusses of my blog is my weight loss which a lot of people find outstanding and inspirational. I lost over 10 stone by healthy eating without exercise. I have since started running and completed a half marathon and 10k race.
I blog about my food, my struggles and inspirations and talk a lot about my weight loss journey. My blog also talks about my depression, my confidence issues and how an average woman like me gets on in life so reviewing lifestyle things, running giveaways and generally just being me!
2. How long have you been blogging for?
I started my blog at the end of October 2015 so around 16 months.
3. What led you to start your blog?
Due to my weight loss a lot of people saw me as an inspiration and said I should share my story. So my blog just came about like that rally. I was enjoying it but wanted to write about more than just the weight I had lost so shared recipes and other lifestyle topics and the blog has just grown from that!
4. What is your motivation to keep going?
I truly enjoy doing my blog and as a SAHM I often feel like I have no identity – just Ben’s mum and Stuart’s girlfriend. So it is nice to feel like I am someone in my own right. It is something I really enjoy doing so I keep going because it is my ‘me time’ and I love doing something that is just for me (not for my boyfriend or son!).
5. How much time do you spend blogging?
I probably spend around 6 hours a week actually blogging but a lot on my social media and working on the promoting of my blog etc. If you count all of that I guess it would be around 20 hours a week I spend on my blog in one way or another.
6. What works best for you to drive more traffic to your blog?
I find Instagram and Facebook really help bring traffic to my blog, Facebook particularly as I share my weight loss story on Facebook groups and find this encourages people to want to read more.
7. What is your favourite tool or plugin?
I don’t use anything like that really, the closest thing I guess I use is Pic Collage app for editing photos to add writing etc over the top.
8. How do you promote your posts?
I share my posts across social media mostly.
9. What is your best tip for fitting blogging in around work or home commitments?
Writing ‘to do’ lists weekly and always knowing what the priorities of your blog are for that week. Then fitting them in around the household and childcare that you have no option but to do!
10. What do you do in your spare time?
My blog mostly! I also love watching crime documentaries on TV and having coffee with friends.
11. What was the first CD you ever bought?
I cant remember exactly but I think it would have been a Now compilation CD. My first record I bought was Kylie Minogue or Jason Donovan back in the 80s.

13. What’s your most embarrassing memory?
I truly cant remember anything like that. Probably something silly I did whilst drunk when I was at university – many moons ago!
14. Who is your favourite celebrity?
I love Sarah Millican. Her comedy is so down to earth and I think she is great!
15. Cats or dogs?
