Freshening up your home for Spring

Freshening up your home for Spring

Now that Christmas has been and gone, we’re excited to see what the New Year will bring.

Many of us look around at our homes and feel a little downhearted.

Maybe it’s because all the twinkly lights have been taken down and the Christmas decorations have been packed away for another year? This usually makes our living rooms look a little empty and drab, albeit very tidy after all that mess!

But now that Spring is in sight, it’s typical to think about refreshing your living areas.

In this blog, I’ve teamed up with the Door Store to suggest a few inexpensive and easy home updates you can do. You might even be able to do them within a weekend. After all, who actually gets time to do this kind of thing during the working week?

Take a look at your doors

Once you’ve pulled down all those Christmas cards and sticky, glittery pictures the kids made, your doors might be looking a little worse for wear.

If you think the time has come to update your doors then click here to look at modern options available to buy online.

If you think your doors are in good overall condition but you want to give them a boost, try your local DIY store for some wood paint. You’ll be amazed at the difference a lick of paint can make!

Lighten and brighten

As an unwritten rule, winter colour schemes tend to be dark and heavy deep reds with comforting hues of warmth.

It seems that we just want something warm and cosy to come back to after a day out in the cold!

With Spring on the way though, we want to lighten up accessories in the home.

Think beautiful, light pastel shades and banish those dark colours until next winter.

Go green

Nothing says, ‘fresh’ like introducing greenery into your home.

Try a beautiful new houseplant to place in the corner, or a leafy plant to give the bathroom a fresher feel.

Spring always has an abundance of beautiful flowers on show, so make the most of them.

Tulips, daffodils and even snowdrops look beautiful in any vase on any surface, giving a home a sense of elegance.

Don’t forget your bedroom!

Strip back that heavy duvet and treat yourself to some lovely new sheets.

Everyone loves fresh bedding but why not treat yourself to some brand new ones?

Crisp white linen gives any room an elegant and utterly fresh feel. So put away those heavy patterned throws, duvet covers and pillowcases and think ‘hotel chic’.

Over the winter months, it’s easy to gather clutter and place it on top of other clutter.

Having a good clear out and reorganising your items will not only clear your home but your mind as well.

Having extra space on your countertops means that you have more room for photographs and those lovely items that might have become hidden.

It’s not called a spring clean for nothing after all!

This was a collaborative post with Door Store. Opinions are my own.

Nothing better than a good spring clean. I hate clutter and try my best to always have clear surfaces around the house. Thank you for sharing with #StayClassymama
