I can’t hardly believe that Lady P is 6 months old already!
In any other walk of life, even a month seems like an absolute lifetime, let alone 15 of them, yet it seems like just yesterday we were bringing our little newborn home at just 12 hours old.
It’s all a bit of blur of feeds, nappy changes, wee, poop, sick, baby groups, washing, and now food being spat at me, and I can barely actually even remember being pregnant, but what an amazing time we have had together.
So as she reaches her first half a year milestone, these are just a few of special things so far…
The night she was born – Mr Tum fell asleep a few hours after we were settled into our own room, but I think I spent most of the night just looking at Lady P, holding her and checking that she was warm enough but not too warm. I’ll never forget those first few hours with our special little one and I reckon it took a good week to stop rubbing my tummy expecting it to move!
Not being able to leave the bedroom – For the first month or so, I wasn’t seen out of our bedroom before midday and I certainly didn’t know what breakfast was. It was just impossible to get the baby fed, changed and settled, and then find enough energy to get myself up and make it down the stairs before she woke for the next feed!
Her first Christmas (and my first hangover) – Spending a big family Christmas back up at my parents’, Lady P was firmly on the formula and Mummy had some bubbles to celebrate! Probably a few too many bubbles in reality as BOY was the next morning tough. Eek.
Her first roll – Ahead of the game, she actually learned to roll over at 12 weeks. I remember popping her on the play mat while I went to take something to the kitchen and coming back to find her in another part of the mat on her tummy. That’s not how I’d left her!
Her first tooth – Coming through at just 5 months old, she now has her first tooth halfway through. Daddy found this out the hard way by receiving a nip to his finger that actually drew blood! I can’t wait to see how her smile changes with the arrival of this and other toothy pegs.
Her first moves – Happening only just last weekend, she is now mobile. It’s more of a commando crawl than a fully coordinated movement, but she is certainly shuffling her way around the carpet as we speak! *Puts laptop down to stop Lady P ejecting the DVD drawer and head butting the TV unit, whilst Googling ‘stair gates’*.
I’ve discovered so many things since becoming a Mummy (not least how to not go to the loo or cope without a cup of tea until the afternoon), but most importantly, I have learned to wholeheartedly put someone else’s needs before my own. It has taught me to listen and trust my instincts, and to just not worry about some things. I am way busier that I ever was commuting and working – how did I ever have time for that?! I have made so many new friends and discovered new ways to spend time with my little human, and whilst I might miss spontaneous nights out from time to time, I wouldn’t trade any of it for a second.
Happy Birthday, my darling.
Love from Mummy & Daddy x
