When it came to the time that Lady P was ready to use children’s cutlery, I bought what matched her plate and bowl.
I didn’t really think about whether a particular design would make it easier for her to handle. And as most of the sets I looked at all kind of looked the same, there didn’t seem to be a lot of difference.
Then I discovered Doddl and their ergonomic cutlery.
Doddl cutlery has short functionally designed handles designed to give greater control for little hands and make it easier for children to feed themselves successfully.
The idea behind the design encourages development of the pincer grip, needed for learning to draw and write. Practice of this grip allows the child to develop the skill and make the successful transition to adult cutlery.
Using the Doddl cutlery set
I tried them out with Lady P and she love it!
The design really appealed to her – eliciting a squeal of delight when she’d only seen the packaging. Oh to be that easily pleased again!
Once she’d got over the initial interest, she couldn’t wait to get her hands on them. The fact that they looked different immediately got her interest, but used to just a spoon and fork, she soon realised she had a third item.
What’s this Mummy?
It’s a knife, Lady P.
That’s not a knife, Mummy… This is a knife.*
*Said if she was actually born in the Australian outback.
The design of these bad boys is really cool.
Unlike other children’s cutlery that is either made of light plastic and easily falls from the hand, or is too small and fiddly to handle, Doddl wasn’t dropped once.
The items are just the right size for little hands but still easy to for bigger ones to also manage, and the colours, packaging and weight gives a great quality finish that feels designed to last.
Tried and tested review:
I love products that try to do things differently, but a lot of the time I find that the original thing was actually OK and didn’t need tampering with. With Doddl though, there were NO YOGHURT SPLODGES TO CLEAR UP because the spoon didn’t slip. In my books, that means that these cutlery sets take something we do on an everyday basis, apply innovation and come up with something that not only looks good, but also that makes life just that little bit easier.
