Recently, I won a Twitter competition hosted by Out of Date Mates, and the prize was a set of ‘fridge-friendly’ weaning magnets and stickers to make the storage of opened baby food easier (and safer).
So here is what we thought…
Admittedly, Lady P is a bit old to need to worry about opened jars of baby food and therefore the safe storage of it, but occasionally I do buy the odd jar of rice pudding or fruit desert for her if it jumps off the shelf whilst out shopping.
And whilst she is a pretty good eater and usually gobbles any new foods that I introduce to her, we are still also using pre-cooked and frozen portions of homemade foods that are most certainly usually only half-finished before being popped into the fridge for another mealtime if she fancies it.
Nine times out of ten though, I find myself just chucking these leftovers because I can barely remember what I ate yesterday let alone when I defrosted that lovingly-prepared pasta dish for her (to leave).
So when I came across the Out Of Date Mates food storage aid, I thought it was a brilliant idea. I only wished I had found these when Lady P was weaning, because boy did we go through a lot of jars and pouches as she worked out what she did and didn’t want to smear across her face.
Essentially, the products OODM offers is fridge magnets with the day of the week on so that you can easily record the day you opened some food, but as jars often lose out to homemade or baby-led weaning foods, they also offer stickers that can be applied to pouches, or in my case now, to the lids of the batches of home-cooked foods I freeze.
The magnets come in pink, blue or multicolour and are great quality – stacking together really neatly. So when they are not being used to store food, Lady P enjoys playing with them and sticking them to the bin in our kitchen!
They also came in pretty handy when I ran out of stickers used in an attempt to get Lady P to try potty training. But that’s a whole other story…
Tried and tested review:
These handy little magnets and stickers are a great idea for taking one less worry out of weaning. They help you to easily record the day you opened a jar of baby food, and the stickers can help to keep track of pouches and homemade foods. These would definitely have made my life a lot easier when starting to wean.
